A Moment of Seeing

A festival feast had just begun.

Everyone was talking about the food.

On the table:

lamb brisket,

oxtail soup,

roasted pig trotters,

braised chicken feet,

deep-fried fish head,

steamed lobster.

One piece after another.

Smiles all around.

Praise for the cooking.

For a moment,

the eyes stopped on one dish.

The hand didn't reach for another piece.

Another scene appeared.

Not clear,

yet enough to make me pause.

The things on the table

had once been alive.

The noise continued.

People kept eating.

As if nothing had happened.

Only that moment

stayed.
