Enough

When younger,

it often felt like something was missing.

The degree was not high enough.

The income was not enough.

The experience was not enough.

So there was always more to learn,

more to do,

more to pursue.

It seemed that a little more

would bring a little more freedom.

A little stronger,

a little safer.

Yet the more that was gained,

the more there was to lose.

The more that was gathered,

the more there was to hold on to.

After a while,

the chase itself became tiring.

There was always something

still not attained.

Only later did it become clear

that freedom was never found

in having more.

It appeared,

when the feeling of “not enough”

began to loosen.

The urge to chase softened.

Comparison quietened.

The heart felt a little wider.

The freedom that had been sought for so long

was never far away.

Enough

is not about how much is owned.

It is when there is no longer a need

to keep chasing.
